Members from the North East Fire Company have been very busy over the last 24 hours. Three watercraft in distress calls with assets being called in from the Department of Natural Resource Police, US Coast Guard, the Maryland State Police, and the Susquehanna Hose Company, Division 4 Hose Company Dive Team, as well as a reported structure fire, and a serious accident on Interstate 95 involving rollover have kept our volunteers very active. A short time ago, the North East Fire Company was dispatched for a water rescue, with a 29ft vessel taking on water. Utility 433, Boat 4, Rescue 4, and Ambulance 492 responded and the boat was launched from Anchor Marina. Maryland Department of Natural Resources Marine units, Charlestown Fire Company, Station 5, and Perry Point Fire Dept responded with boats as well. At approximately 5:40 this evening, the North East Fire Company was dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Rescue off of Mechanic’s Valley Road. Deputy 4 arrived to find one patient who was trapped in the vehicle and required a door pop. Rescue 4 and Assistant Chief 4 arrived and quickly began extrication. The patient was extricated and flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. During this incident, crews put our brand new extrication tools by HURST to use. These tools were purchased with the VLT grant made possible through Hollywood Casino in Perryville. These tools are battery operated and portable, allowing them to be carried and moved without restriction. Tonight was the first time these tools were used and they have already proved that they were worth the purchase. Once again, we are extremely thankful for the aviation assets provided by Maryland State Police - Aviation Command, which help transport critical patients to appropriate medical centers in a fraction of the time. ...
